Former President Donald Trump said on Monday that if he won the election next November, the first thing he would do would be to “free” those who were arrested and charged with the crime related to the attack on 6 January against the US Capitol. .

On January 6, 2021, following the defeat of United States President Donald Trump in the 2020 election, a mob of the former president’s supporters attacked the United States Capitol building in Washington, DC.

Encouraged by Trump, thousands of his supporters rallied in Washington, D.C., to support his baseless accusations that the 2020 election was “stolen,” and then-Vice President Mike Pence to reject Biden’s victory.

More than two thousand rioters broke into the building. THE United States House of Representatives impeached Trump for inciting insurrection a week after the attack.

More than 1,200 people have been charged with federal offenses in connection with the incident.

On the matter, Trump wrote on his social media site, Truth Social: “My first acts as the next president will be to close the border, DRILL, BABY, DRILL, and release the January 6th hostages imprisoned at wrong ! »

This is the first time Trump has publicly said that freeing defendants following the Capitol riots is his priority.

Trump has already urged President Joe Biden to “free” the Jan. 6 defendants multiple times.

Trump promises to “RELEASE” defendants on January 6 if he wins

He also repeatedly hinted that if he won in November, he would likely pardon some of them.

Trump frequently refers to the defendants as “hostages,” a description the White House has deemed “grotesque.”

The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Washington, D.C., reports that prosecutors have obtained more than 950 convictions for the January 6, 2021, incident and nearly 500 people have been sentenced to prison.

More than 1,350 people have been charged over the incident.

Last year, Trump said he would pardon “a large portion” of the defendants starting Jan. 6 and would do so “very soon.”

Upon taking office, presidents have the power to pardon and commute federal sentences. Trump appears to be waiting for the opportunity to exercise this authority and pardon the rioters.

In August, Trump was charged with a crime related to his actions on January 6. The charges included disruption of an official proceeding and conspiracy to deceive the nation. He pleaded not guilty.

Trump has faced numerous lawsuits against him, but he still enjoys strong support from his supporters.

Using the influence and support of his fans, Trump appears ready to face the upcoming November election, which will be a showdown between him and Joe Biden.

If Trump wins the election, he could then use his power to pardon those who took part in the riot.
