Google Fiber set to expand into Nebraska community

Google Fiber, a high-speed Internet service provider, has begun construction of fiber optic Internet access in Bellevue, Nebraska.

The company announced plans in early September to introduce reliable internet connection via fiber optic broadband to the region.

He said construction would begin this winter to serve residents of Bellevue, a rapidly growing city in the Omaha-Council Bluffs urban area with a population of approximately 67,737 (2021 census).

Although several news and media outlets reported that the company began construction to execute its new plan in early October, Google Fiber itself has not clarified the news.

The news came on Friday when Andy Simpson, general manager of Google Fiber’s central region, confirmed the Google Fiber build in a statement. The company is now preparing to deploy high-speed Internet in the city.

Simpson also said Google Fiber is working with ALLO Fiber to provide reliable internet in the city. ALLO Fiber is a Nebraska-based telecommunications service provider that has served the state for 20 years. The company also serves several communities in Arizona and Colorado.

Referring to its partnership with ALLO Fiber to improve connectivity in Nebraska, Simpson said, “We are excited to work with a like-minded, innovative local company to make this happen.

In addition, according to the media, Google Fiber or Bellevue have not incurred any costs regarding the licensing agreement. The City will charge a nominal permit fee for the use of the Municipal Cable Construction Right.

Google Fiber is one of several fiber broadband providers in Bellevue. FastWyre Broadband, a joint venture of Madison Dearborn Partners LLC and Catania ABC Partners, also serves the city and other areas of Nebraska.

Google Fiber serves high-speed fiber Internet primarily to smaller communities. However, the company has increased its presence in many parts of the United States in recent years.

Its entry into the City of Bellevue is a positive development that will help develop a competitive environment for other local service providers in the state and provide citizens with reliable, high-speed fiber broadband Internet access.
