McCarthy privately recounts terse phone call with Trump after his ouster

Following the attack on the US Capitol which took place on January 6, 2021, Kevin McCarthy (Republican of California), then House Minority Leader, visited Donald Trump at his Mar-a-Lago club. McCarthy offered a helping hand to the former president as he faced criticism for instigating the historic attack.

But nearly three years later, with McCarthy struggling, Trump turned his back on him and failed to give him the support he needed.

Trump helped McCarthy win the presidency in January. Trump helped McCarthy and then took credit on social media. However, Trump said little throughout the Gaetz-led move to remove McCarthy from office.

Representative Matt Gaetz (R-Florida) initiated the process to unseat McCarthy, a strong supporter of the former president and longtime critic of McCarthy. This attempt was successful, and throughout this attempt, Trump remained silent and said nothing regarding McCarthy.

Gaetz later claimed in an interview that Trump had supported McCarthy’s removal. Trump denied the claims and endorsed Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) to succeed McCarthy. Representative Jim Jordan (Republican of Ohio) could not get enough votes and Representative Mike Johnson became Speaker of the House.

According to those familiar with the exchange, weeks after McCarthy’s historic impeachment as Speaker of the House on October 3, Trump spoke with McCarthy and explained why he refused to interview Rep. Matt Gaetz ( Republican of Florida) and efforts by others to impeach him.

Trump reportedly chastised McCarthy over the phone for not dropping his two impeachments and for not supporting him in the 2024 presidential race.

According to the sources, McCarthy then told Trump: “F— you”

On the other hand, McCarthy’s spokesperson claimed that he and the former president got along well and that McCarthy did not insult him.

After his expulsion from office, McCarthy lashed out at those who helped remove him from office while publicly attacking specific politicians in interviews.

McCarthy lost the presidency, but he has not yet declared whether or not he will seek re-election.

People familiar with his plans said McCarthy was considering a future outside of Congress and so it was unclear whether he would remain in public office.

In order to decide whether he will run for a new term in 2024, the former president had until December 8 to submit his file, with a five-day grace period offered to incumbents.

McCarthy said at an event, “If I decide to run again, I have to know in my heart that I’m giving 110 percent.” I have to know that I want to do this,”

He added: “I also need to know if I’m going to walk away, that I’ll have no problem walking away. »

McCarthy has not endorsed any presidential candidate in 2024, but in the coming months it is assumed he will support Trump.

Many candidates are vying for the presidency and are campaigning hard to gain popular support. Despite four indictments and trials scheduled to coincide with crucial dates in the election cycle, former President Donald Trump is well ahead in polls for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination.

Trump is unwavering, even though he has not participated in any debates where the other candidates tried to take over. Despite all the efforts of the other candidates, Trump maintains the advantage and remains the favorite.
