The third Republican presidential debate is scheduled for this week in Florida.

NBC News will host the puck drop at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts in Miami-Dade County at 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday, November 8, 2023.

According to information provided Monday by the Republican National Committee (RNC), the five Republican candidates qualified for the third GOP debate include Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley, South Carolina Senator Tim Scott, the biotechnology entrepreneur. Vivek Ramaswamy and former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.

Under the RNC’s eligibility criteria to qualify for the third GOP debate, each presidential candidate had to get 4% or higher in two national polls or 4% in one national poll and 4% in two state polls during of the important early voting. States of Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina.

Each poll used for qualification must have surveyed at least 800 likely Republican voters and been approved by the RNC. Candidates also needed at least 70,000 unique donors, 200 from each of 20 states or territories.

Additionally, they must sign an RNC pledge to support the Republican candidate. The candidates had Monday evening as a deadline to qualify under these conditions for the debate.

Although qualified, like the other two previous Republican debates, former President Donald Trump, the Republican primary favorite, will not participate in the third Republican debate, citing his lead in the 2024 presidential race.

Instead, the former president reportedly decided to hold his event in Hialeah, Florida, on the day of the debate. Trump said he planned to skip the third debate because the former president did not want to promote other candidates behind in the polls by sharing the debate room with them.

Trump also denied signing the pledge to support the final Republican nominee.

There are also candidates like former Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson and North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, who qualified for the first GOP debate but failed to qualify for the second or third.

One Republican candidate, former Vice President Mike Pence, participated in the first two GOP presidential debates but dropped out of the primary race last week, on October 28, anticipating his failure to qualify for the third debate.

The third debate of the GOP presidential primary is crucial for Republican presidential candidates because it gives them a platform to share their opinions and the political strategy they would employ for the United States if they become president in 2024.

The debate allows GOP candidates to openly target their rivals for their vague policies.

The third GOP debate will be the last opportunity for candidates to appeal to voters for their victory before early voting states begin voting in January.
