Requirements set by the RNC for the fourth Republican debate
The Republican National Committee, or RNC, has raised the bar for candidates wishing to participate in the debate phase preceding the fourth.
According to the RNC press release, to appear on a podium in December, candidates must score 6% or higher in two national surveys or 6% in an early state poll in two separate “left-out” states, which are listed as Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina.
This is more than the 4% requirement set for the third debate which took place in early November.
Among other requirements, the polls must also survey at least 8,000 likely registered Republican voters.
Candidates must amass a minimum of 80,000 unique donors to their primary presidential campaign committee, with at least 200 unique donors in 20 or more states or territories each.
This contrasts with the previous debate, which required at least 70,000 unique donors.
