Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds plans to support Ron DeSantis in the 2024 presidential race.
Here is the detailed news.
Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds will support Ron DeSantis
Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds is reportedly supporting Florida Governor and 2024 presidential candidate Ron DeSantis in the upcoming 2024 Republican primary.
According to information provided by the DeSantis campaign website, Reynolds will attend a DeSantis rally in Des Moines, Iowa, on Monday at 6 p.m. Eastern.
Reynolds previously said she would remain neutral in the GOP primary race. However, his support for governor of Florida was long overdue due to his presence at some of DeSantis’ rallies in his state.
Several conservative Iowans responded to the news of Reynolds’ support for DeSantis. Bob Vander Plaats, a political activist, said of Reynolds: “She is exceptionally popular and a great competitor. She would only approve if she saw a path to victory.”
Another conservative radio host from Iowa, Jeff Angelo, who often interviews Republican presidential candidates, said Reynolds’ support would help DeSantis.
In contrast, former President Donald Trump and one of the Republican Party’s front-runners for the presidential nomination have repeatedly criticized Reynolds for supporting his biggest rival.
In July, the Iowa governor was seen with DeSantis at his campaign rally after asserting his neutrality. Former President Trump attacked Reynolds for supporting DeSantis in his Truth Social platform.
Trump posted: “I opened the governorship to Kim Reynolds, and when she fell behind, I ENDORSED her, had big rallies and she won. From now on, she wants to remain NEUTRAL. I don’t invite him to events.
The Trump campaign again criticized the Iowa governor following her recent announcement of support for DeSantis, saying that “Reynolds promised her voters she would remain neutral in the race, but she completely backtracked this promise. Either way, his support won’t make any difference in this race.
Since running for president, DeSantis has paid particular attention to Iowa, which will host the first nominating contest to select the Republican nominee.
His campaign recently deployed a third of its campaign staff from Tallahassee to Des Moines. According to sources, out of a total of 99 Iowa counties that the Florida governor planned to visit, he had visited 83 as of October, becoming a Republican president hoping to visit the state for as long as possible.
DeSantis said on ‘The Source,’You shake hands, you ask questions, it’s not something you’ll necessarily see in surveys. That’s something that comes out when people make their decision to caucus, so we’re doing it the right way. I’m going to be the only candidate to make all 99 counties.”
DeSantis also viewed Reynolds’ support as key to gaining significant approval in Iowa. In late October, media reported that DeSantis said: “An endorsement from Reynolds would be a huge win. Obviously, I would like to have his support, formal support. I think it would be very, very significant.”
In July, Florida’s governor called Reynolds “one of the highest civil servants in America.” He said he would consider the Iowa governor as a potential vice presidential candidate if he wins the GOP nomination.
Recent October polls in Iowa showed Trump leading DeSantis by 30 points. As such, being famous among Republican voters, Reynolds’ support would help DeSantis gain the momentum needed to compete with Trump in the Iowa caucuses and then the state’s primaries.
