Reports indicate that T-Mobile’s CEO has hinted at acquiring USCELLULAR, which was recently put up for sale.
Here is the detailed news.
Report: Is T-Mobile considering acquiring USCellular?
In another interesting move, T-Mobile CEO Mike Sievert has indicated that he will purchase USCellular, a wireless network, as indicated by reports.
Last week, UScellular’s parent company, Telephone and Data Systems (TDS) put UScellular’s assets up for sale.
Currently, UScellular, headquartered in Chicago, serves approximately 5 million mobile customers in 21 states in the United States and operates approximately 4,300 cell towers throughout its coverage area.

The company also employs nearly 4,600 people and has spectrum licenses ranging from 600 MHz – AWS, CBRS, 3.45 GHz, C-band and 28 GHz.
Speculation that T-Mobile would buy the U.S. cellular assets came after Mike Sievert spoke about his plans, saying he would “initiate a process to explore strategic alternatives” to expand T-Mobile in the market last month.

The CEO was asked about the carrier’s plans and rural strategy if an asset was available at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia + Technology conference last Wednesday.
Mike Sievert responded: “Maybe, but I really like our Plan A. The hurdles for M&A would be high. As reports say, this indicates that T-Mobile is ready to purchase the listed US cellular assets.

Based on USCellular’s current market cap, if T-Mobile decides to buy a US cellular network, it would cost them $3.56 billion.
It would appear that the purchase would be more reasonable than T-Mobile’s purchase of Sprint in 2020. Additionally, the purchase would provide T-Mobile with a broader customer base and significant assets in rural markets.

T-Mobile’s rural wireless market share increased from 13% in 2021 to 16.5% in 2023. But Sievert appears to be increasing that share further and hopes to increase it to 20% by 2025.
However, apart from reports, there is no official announcement confirming that T-Mobile is acquiring USCELLULAIRE.
