Soumya Vishwanathan was a famous journalist. She was shot dead in Vasant Vihar, Delhi on September 30, 2008. She was found dead in her car with a gunshot wound to her head. This heartbreaking incident happened around 3:30 in the early morning while she was driving home.
After fifteen years, Soumya Vishwanathan’s murderers were brought to justice. The Delhi High Court convicted the accused on October 18, 2023. Ravi Kapoor, Amit Shukla, Baljit Malik, Akshay Kumar and Ajay Sethi were convicted of murder and robbery under Sections 302, 34, 3 (i) of the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA).

Soumya Vishwanathan murder case
In 2009, Delhi Police suspected Ravi Kapoor and Amit Shukla in connection with the Jigisha Ghosh murder case. During the investigation, they shockingly confessed to Soumya’s murder and called it an ‘exciting activity’.
In June 2010, Delhi Police filed a chargesheet against Ravi Kapoor, Amit Shukla, Baljit Malik and Ajay Sethi in the murder case. The trial for Soumya’s murder case started on November 16, 2010 at the Saket Court.
When the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA) was invoked against the accused, the three convicts, Malik, Kapoor and Shukla, were found guilty in Jigisha Ghosh’s case.
After fifteen years, the Delhi court convicted Kapoor, Shukla, Ajay Kumar and Malik under Sections 302 and 34 for murder and robbery. Ajay Sethi has been convicted under Section 411 of the Indian Penal Code for concealing the vehicle.
