Birth and early life
Uday Pratap Saharan was born on December 8, 2004 in Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan. Uday’s father Sanjeev Saharan hoped that Uday would become a cricketer as that was his own unfulfilled dream when he was younger. His father owned a cricket coaching business and took Uday there to practice.
He also made room for Uday to play cricket at home, where Uday started learning the game. In winter it became very cold in Sri Ganganagar, up to 1 degree, but Uday always went to practice no matter how cold it was. Encouraged by his father, 11-year-old Uday moved from Sri Ganganagar to Fazilka in search of better cricketing opportunities.
He played in the under-14 and under-16 teams there. Later, he moved again to Bathinda to join the under-19 team which had very good cricket facilities from the Punjab Cricket Association to help Uday improve in cricket.
Uday and his father traveled to Bathinda every day. After a year, Uday made the camp of the Punjab under-14 team, so his father drove him to Mohali, where he would stay without family for the first time. Immediately after dropping Uday and reaching Ludhiana, his father received a call from Uday saying he wanted to come home.
For a week his father postponed picking him up, and gradually Uday began to enjoy the camp. Punjab team captain Mandeep Singh was impressed with Uday and gifted him a cricket bat after he did well in a fitness test.
Career
In 2022, Uday was a backup player for the Under-19 World Cup in the West Indies but did not feature. After his return, he understood that he had to improve his cricket skills. He got home at 11 p.m., but was ready to go back to training at 6 a.m. the next day.
